The Citroen 2cv is to France and the French what the Ford T was to America, the Mini Cooper to the British and the Beetle to the Germans. It was good at everything. Every farmer, mother, village priest… had one. It helped restart the country after the war and truly is a French icon, a symbol of our spirit and lifestyle…

Aahh, yes, the people’s wagon! Have you noticed its similarity in design to the post-WWII Volkswagen (the people’s wagon) perhaps the same designer? I like the Citroen version much better! It looks like fun….
It really is a fun little car. They are getting rare and very expensive:)
Super post. If I didn’t have a Mini, and a VW, I’d get one of these. I believe that at one time it was the only vehicle other than a Landrover in which you might sensibly tackle the Sahara.
Absolutely! My Aunt and Uncle lived in Africa in the 60s and couldn’t have coped without it. Your comment makes me smile as one of the photos we have of them in Africa features a 2cv and two Land Rovers:)
That advert was hilarious!
Wasn’t it?!
Many, many years ago, I drove one of these cars, for one month, through Germany and Holland!
How fun! A lot of kids here do a “tour de France” with the 2cv. It is always an adventure:)
That is awesome! I love it.
I LOVE that ad!
Faster than a Ferrari. (When the Ferrari is travelling at 65mph). I’m still chuckling
I know! It made me laugh when I first read it:)
I love them, some great photos!
Elle a été ma première voiture!
Je crois que c’est le cas de beaucoup d’entre nous:) J’adorais l’odeur:)
Stephane – Nice post. Love the pic of the Dyane in the poppy field. That would make for a great header photo on your blog. I have an Italian friend who owned one for 40+ years. She finally junked it and bought a Toyota :>(
I think it’d be perfect as a header too. Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t belong to me:(
Lovely! I’ve always wanted one of these with a canvas roll back top.
They are really cool aren’t they. They are getting very expensive now. Proof of their huge appeal:)
My boyfried in high school had an old marine blue Citroen. He drove it madly, we all loved it. Thanks for the memories!
Viv
This is so cool:)
Actually some of those styles would be very popular today with the younger generation! Interesting car!
My Dad used to talk about the Citroen and reminded us that it means lemon. In Canada, that is not a good name for a car. A lemon is a car with lots of problems, but it looks like the Citroen did not live up to that name.
Most citroens were lemons except the 2cv, the DS and the traction:)
There was an orange one in my neighbourhood that I begged my husband to buy for me! Those cars are super sweet! Nice post! :0)
My friend drove one at University. Great fun!
Lovely pictures! The first one is especially beautiful! R
