This post is dedicated to Brook:
My Aunt Nicole (in the picture), my second mother, offered me a DVD when I decided 20 years ago to study hospitality. This movie illustrates perfectly what I am all about. It shows what “entertaining” really means. Service, creativity, selflessness, giving, surprising others. Making people feel important and special.

It’s also a good reminder that when one does what he/she loves, he/she can reach perfection every time and without effort. By perfection, I mean his/her most perfect self and expression of self. This is because, in these activities we love, we are not trying to fit in someone else’s definition of what is great or mediocre. We redefine perfection. We give it its proper meaning. Perfection to me is producing something, be it a service or a product or an ambiance/situation, that makes us feel proud, joyful and truly satisfied/fulfilled. Something that shows ourselves and the world a vibrant and accurate image of who we really are. Nothing more, nothing less… Recent comments of many of my dear readers have reminded me of that.

Love the movie and your blog too! My favorite part of the movie was the turtle. It makes me want to do some serious cooking.
I never tried turtle soup before… I don’t know if I would dare… I don’t even think it’s possible to make it anymore…
Babette’s Feast is one of my all time favourite movies, the measured pace in my mind, perfect for the story. Food brings people together like nothing else except maybe wine, and for the cook it is the ultimate act of love, especially if cooking for people you care for. Thanks for finding me, I really like your blog and will now click to follow you
I agree! The pace is slow, but perfect for the movie. I am glad you like the blog. I find yours very interesting as well!! As for cooking, one of my chefs said once that it was the highest kind of art in that its is the only art where the artist wants each masterpiece to be destroyed. The more people take pleasure in destroying it, the better the artist feels. Completely selfless.
Wonderful post Stephane!
Have you seen the movie? It is a little slow paced, but I think you’d love it…
I haven’t I’ve never even heard of it. I’m going to have to look it up!
You’d love it! It is very slow paced, but that really fits with the ambiance and the story…
Such fantastically powerful words – thank you!
Thanks! I worry that I write too much nonsense sometimes:) Did you ever watch that movie?
Not that I know of. I immediately thought of History of a Young Lady but am not sure if I am right.
Your words rang particularly true to heart as sometimes we bloggers need a gentle reminder that our unique vision is a great gift, despite sometimes going against the norm.
Merci.
I for one LOVE YOUR unique vision!!
Love the words in this post, thanks for sharing
Thank you so much! You should check this movie out if you’ve never seen it:)

Babette’s Feast is such a great movie! The end makes the somewhat slow pace sooooo worth it!
