Yes I must admit, most of my ancestors, friends and family member have, do and will sell drugs. The good kind though! The delicious kind! The LEGAL kind :0).
Two of my favorite French Sopranos are my Nephew Pierre and our long time family friend Phillipe Durand-Teyssier.
Pierre took over our family business a few years back. My Grandfather and his wife (picture below) created it in the early 1900s but focused at the time on the French market.
A century later, Pierre only does exports. The name of the company went from “The Gabart-Laval Wine Company” to “Gabart-Laval Export” and Pierre has made us all very proud by saving our beloved family business. I will write more extensively about this part of our family history in future posts.
As for Phillipe, he owns Château Viaud Lalande in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation. It is a very small property (about two football fields). The production is therefore very limited and this “boutique” château has become a gem in the eyes of the true connoisseurs. This wine is only available through Pierre for wine importers only. I took the liberty to list the stores that may have some bottles left at the end of this post.
So here is our favorite drug dealer in his lovely little vineyard:
… and here is the modest family home:
Philippe was mad I had to take the pictures in winter as the park lacks flowers, but I thought the light was fantastic…
So here are the stores you may be able to find Château Viaud Lalande:
- Wine Time – Lisbonne Portugal
- Vinos Yamazaki (N°1 du saké au Japan) – Tokyo
- Highbury Vintners – London
- Eton Vintners – Windsor
- Chapeau Wines – Dublin
- Premium Wines – Bresil
- Vinitrad – Belgium
- Shanghai Master World Wines – Shanghai
- Fraser – Chengdu – China
- MS Praha – Prague
- Quantock Abbey Wines Cellars – Yeovil – England
- Ningbo Chengyun – Ningbo China
- Van Erp Wines – Netherlands
- JC Wines – Canton China
- Vin Unique – Netherlands

J’avais raté cette savoureuse chronique !! Avec en prime la photo de notre vedette locale qui fait la une de la presse girondine toutes les semaines
))
Que tu cherche les termes Bordeaux, chasse, chasseur et son chien ou BCBG dans le dico, tu tombes toujours sur une photo de Philippe. Si tu cherches “Chic Libournaise” tu tombes sur une photo d’elle:)
How wonderful! Reading your posts takes me to new places and times. I love that your blog reads like a novel or a great movie. Thank you for taking us to the vineyard. What a treat! (and I will be looking for the post about how to get some in the States) Of course, like I said before, I need to get a passport and will come visit your lovely B&B, then perhaps I can partake in a little family wine!
Thank you Katie for the lovely comment. You know I’m here. So just call me as soon as your passport has been stamped:)
Such a rich family history! The home is beautiful beyond words! Straight from a fairy tale!
I think it was their parent’s present for their wedding. They have raised 3 beautiful children in it.
Oh to have such a wedding present!
Just wonderful, Stephane. I envy you for having grown up around all those grapes!
The next post on wine will be dedicated to you my friend!
So hard to hear about good wine only to find I can’t get any!
I love you post old pics.
I check on good wines we distribute in the US etc. and post what I find:)
Sounds good to me.
Thanks for sharing. I see no one in the States has the pleasure of purveying your family’s wine??
That specific wine no, but I’m sure there are many available. I will ask and post about it:)
I love your photos of the house, so beautiful!
Thanks! It is a beautiful home indeed:) Phillipe and his wife have great taste and the interior is simple yet very tasteful…
