This week at the Farmers’ Market

I realized it’d been a very long time since I had taken you with me to the market. It is always a wonderful place to visit and meet people. I particularly like this time of year because of the wide variety of produce. Tomatoes of all sorts, fresh pink garlic… The first artichokes are finally out! We can find them almost year round, but they come from other countries. These here are the real deal. Artichokes from Brittany!

Oh, Stรฉphane, I do love our trips to the market! Thanks for taking me along! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. My French Heaven says:

My pleasure! Maybe one day I’ll get to take you there for real ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. terrepruitt says:

        Yes. That would be great.

  3. Thank you for all these lovely photos — I feel as if I’ve wandered through the market with you, enjoying the colours and fragrances, and (hopefully) the flavours of a few things sampled.

    1. My French Heaven says:

Thank you Marlene! So glad you liked the post. Yes, the market is a very special place indeed ๐Ÿ˜‰

So beautiful love farmers markets. I hope when I visit France next year I will get to enjoy seeing one

    1. My French Heaven says:

I’m sure you will Lisa. They is one in every single village and city in the country, usually on Saturday or Sunday…

      1. lisa622014 says:

        I’m excited to go

  5. Now that I have a table at our local farmers’ market I am excited to be surrounded with the bounty of the local harvest. It;s fun to watch the shoppers. Some stroll looking at each table, exploring options. Others are dead set on a mission and they have their favorite vendors. The energy level is high. The music is usually pleasant. The food is always amazing.

    1. My French Heaven says:

That is so great! I had no idea you had a table at the market. What do you sell?

      1. I am a commerical food processor working with small farms in the area. I capture their surplus, the things of first quality that they don’t sell and the “ugly fruit” they don’t bother to sell. I am preserving by canning and dehydrating. It is SO much fun to play with my food!! My website is candorealfood.com

Oh this is so great (and important)! I watched fields of dreams last night for the 100th time and that reminded me how much I love American farms. That red barn on your site reminds me of a road trip I took once when I lived in Chicago. So incredibly American. So lovely! I’m so glad there are people like you who keep playing with food! Thinking of all the kids who get to enjoy real produce. My nanny used to can tons of tomato sauce when I was a kid because (believe it or not) I was anorexic until the age of 10 and pasta and tomato sauce where the only food I would eat…

          1. Vinny Grette says:

You were anorexic as a child??? Oh my, there is indeed hope for my little, picky-eater of a grandson :). Lovely photos, as usual.

  6. chef mimi says:

Have I been to this market? It’s hard to tell, but the photos are all so beautiful. I love seeing the farmers as well as the gorgeous produce.

    1. My French Heaven says:

      Hungry’s good ๐Ÿ˜œ

  8. Wow! Your farmer’s market looks awesome! I wish I had a farmer’s market that was this big near me! They’re such great places to get fresh produce and honey and sweets and goodness knows what else you might want! Gorgeous pics!

  9. I bet everything smells and tastes as good as they look. Makes me hungry.

  10. You are very fortunate to have such a great farmers’ market, wow!

  11. Oooh thank you so much for the new tour of your market! I drool at your produce, ha! It all looks so inviting and ready to just stuff in my mouth. p.s. I found garlic scapes at our Farmer’s Market a couple of weeks ago. What a find for my little neck of the woods, yay! I grilled them and they were delish!

    1. My French Heaven says:

Oh I love that too. I need to write another post on it. You can spread it on bread, put it in mashed potatoes… I love garlic so much!! Just wished it was easier to digest ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Conor Bofin says:

I look forward to getting the tour in advance of cooking for you early next month. Time has flown.
    Best,
    Conor

    1. My French Heaven says:

I thought I was doing the cooking this time … ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. Conor Bofin says:

We can argue the toss in the market.

        1. My French Heaven says:

I’m thinking roast chicken with pommes de terre sarladaises and green olives… Only you can make me salivate weeks in advance โ˜บ๏ธ

          1. Conor Bofin says:

You have just made a plan for me. I can’t wait to be there. Sharon is so looking forward to seeing you again, my friend.

          2. My French Heaven says:

I’m smiling just thinking about Sharon. The most luminus smile and soul I know…

          3. Conor Bofin says:

Because of our mild winter climate Farmers’ Markets are on in almost every township all year: but it is truly lovely to look forwards to the tomato season. Artichokes – we get them months earlier in the season . . well, climatic conditions again!! Love the cheeses – that we rarely have . . .

    1. My French Heaven says:

You are so lucky! Artichokes are my favoritโ˜บ๏ธ

  20. ladyredspecs says:

I love your market photos too, but I especially enjoy your portraits of the vendors, you really capture a sense of character and connection to their produce.

    1. My French Heaven says:

They’re my favorites too. They all look so happy and authentic…

  21. Elisa says:

    Pictures of YUM!

  23. Sabine says:

Oh beautiful, beautiful tomatoes, what would summer be without them! Love your virtual trip, the photos are gorgeous as always plus I donยดt spend as much money as I do when going to the market myself ๐Ÿ˜‰

  24. That’s what I love about France.
Every day, every meal is a celebration of food!

    1. My French Heaven says:

…and life ๐Ÿ˜‰ we certainly need to celebrate joie de vivre and count our blessings these days… Have a lovely day Pamela!

  25. Great photos, I live in France, I go regularly to the Farmers market and I never get bored of them and seeing your photos makes me want to rush out to one, here and now! I will never ever get bored of them or the people, always such characters, we meet there.

    1. My French Heaven says:

You are so right! I offer culinary tours, mostly to American guests, and the market is always their favorite part (after the meal I cook for them of course โ˜บ๏ธ) where do you live in France?

  26. Always enjoy a trip to the farmers market, the produce in France is absolutely beautiful.

    1. My French Heaven says:

      We are very lucky indeed!!

  27. Nadia says:

There is nothing as great as a French small town market.

    1. My French Heaven says:

I love it. It is one of my favorite places to be! The last picture is from the one in Brive actually. It is on Saturdays and truly one of the best ones that I know…

      1. Nadia says:

I must try that one. You mean Brive la Gaillard ?

        1. My French Heaven says:

Yes! I like it because it’s large and the people are authentic farmers etc. It is truly special in that way…
